ESTUDANTINA & THE GAFIEIRA CODE

Estudantina
is open late in Praça Tiradente with her caipirinhas, salgadinhos and
mousse maracuja. For 100 years has hosted night beauties, malandros,
wailing poets and music of the finest talents... Pixinguinha, Donga,
Joao Baiana, Lupicino Rodrigues, Waldir Azevedo and many more. Estudantina
is said to have housed brilliant dancers... From the Parisian Duque
to the intrepid Maria Antonieta.

Art. 1' Ladies are
not allowed in the ballroom wearing:

a) Short trousers

b) Sport shirt
|
c) Open shoes or sandals

d) Hats or other head covers

are not allowed in the ballroom drunk or wearing:

a) A sleeveless shirt
|
b) A short trousers
|
c) Sandals

d) A hat

Art. 3' In the ballroom
it is not allowed:

a) To use pocketbook (big or small)
|
b) To smoke cigarettes or cigars on the dance
floor

c) To bring glasses onto the dance floor
|
d) To dance man with man or woman with woman

Art 4' In the Gafieira
it is not allowed:

a) To kiss scandalously
|
b) To sit on someone's lap
|
c) To create turmoil
|
d) To yell
|
e) To put feet on tables and chairs
|
f) To dance without consideration for the other
dancers
