Cliff
Korman is: A
tantalizing, heart-robbing pianist.
A
venturesome, cosmopolitan composer. A Brazilified New Yorker. A Fulbright
Senior Research Grantee. A respected independent scholar. As a young
man he played comedy clubs and accompanied Yiddish theater legend Molly
Picon. Then he got out of NY and went on the road with R&B star Millie
Jackson. As a jazz player he got the best mentors: Roland Hanna, Ron
Carter and Kenny Barron. But his true passion was Brasil and he took
off with the Girl from Ipanema. As a mature man he became one of the
most significant musical connections between Jazz and Brasil. His independent
curricula in jazz and Brazilian instrumental music have become a staple
for NY and Brazilian universities and music schools. Has co-lead a 16-year
flourishing music project with Paulo Moura. His unmistakable sound accompanied
such artists as Milton Nascimento, Leny Andrade, Dori Caymmi, and Gerry
Mulligan. His swing, rhythm and improvisation make Gafieira Dance Brasil
absolutely unforgettable.
